ITEM DETAILS

TIMBER Armchair Burned Pine - Petrol by Onno Adriaanse is a sculptural lounge chair that explores the transformative potential of wood through fire, color, and craftsmanship. Crafted from solid pine and finished using the traditional Shou Sugi Ban charring technique, the surface reveals a rich interplay of texture, grain, and color. After the wood is carefully burned and brushed, layers of colored linseed oil are applied, creating distinctive Petrol and Pink finishes that interact beautifully with the darkened grain beneath. The result is a chair that feels simultaneously primitive and contemporary, where the traces of fire enhance rather than conceal the natural beauty of the wood.

A Sculptural Armchair

More than a seating element, TIMBER ARMCHAIR – BURNED PINE functions as a powerful design statement that brings depth, texture, and atmosphere into an interior. Its expressive finish and monumental silhouette make it particularly suited to contemporary residences, galleries, hospitality environments, and design-focused spaces seeking furniture with a strong artistic identity. Whether presented in Petrol or Pink, the piece introduces a unique balance of craftsmanship, color, and material character inspired by the transformative force of fire.

DESIGNER

Studio Onno Adriaanse

Founded in Eindhoven in 2016 by Dutch designer Onno Adriaanse following his graduation from the Design Academy Eindhoven, Studio Onno Adriaanse develops collectible furniture, sculptural objects and bespoke interior applications rooted in craftsmanship and material research.

The studio’s work is deeply inspired by landscapes, geological formations and earthly processes. Fascinated since childhood by stones, plants and natural structures, Onno Adriaanse translates these organic phenomena into collectible objects that explore texture, transformation and emotional interaction through materiality.

Working at the intersection of functional design and sculptural expression, the studio develops pieces that balance artistic experimentation with architectural presence. Each collection reflects a hands-on approach where craftsmanship remains central, combining intensive material processing with refined contemporary forms.

Wood, metal, stone and resin are transformed through techniques such as burning, sculpting, staining and polishing, creating objects that reveal the natural depth and imperfections of the material itself. Rather than concealing traces of craftsmanship, the studio intentionally highlights texture, grain, contrast and transformation processes as part of the final visual language.

Studio Onno Adriaanse works across both self-initiated collectible collections and bespoke interior commissions. Through collaborations with galleries and presentations at international art and design fairs, the studio positions itself within a contemporary collectible design landscape where nature, craftsmanship and sculptural storytelling converge.
