Colate Medium | Ceramic Vase

The Colate Medium vase is part of NIVA design's Colate collection, a series of hand-built ceramic vessels exploring the sculptural language of stacked, rounded forms, silhouettes drawn from river stones and glacial pebbles, reassembled into functional objects. Each colourway carries its own tonal gradient, hand-applied through glazing rather than printed or uniform colour, meaning no two vases are entirely alike.

Crafted from terracotta and hand-thrown by master ceramicist Daniel Cavey, Colate Medium combines raw material honesty with refined form. Its three-tiered, ringed silhouette reads as both vessel and sculpture, equally at ease holding a single stem, a fuller arrangement, or standing alone as an object of quiet presence. The matte, sand-textured surface catches light unevenly across its curves, giving each piece a tactile, almost geological quality that shifts with the hour and the angle of view.

Part of the Colate collection designed by Nicole Valenti for NIVA design, Colate Medium reflects a practice built on the dialogue between contemporary form and traditional Italian ceramic craftsmanship. The piece transforms an everyday object, the vase, into a collectible work of functional art, produced entirely by hand in Tuscany.
