Nicola Falcone is an Italian architect and designer born in Basilicata who studied architecture in Florence. He designs his line of contemporary furniture together with Ludwig Hartmann, a German-Ecuadorian designer also trained in Florence. Their pieces are handmade by skilled Tuscan craftsmen, in limited editions, using materials tied directly to Florence's own history.
Florence, Rebuilt in Brass and Marble
Nicola Falcone works from architecture outward, trained in Florence, he treats furniture as a smaller act of building, where proportion and structure matter as much as ornament. Alongside co-designer Ludwig Hartmann, he draws on materials the city has worked for centuries: brass, iron, marble, alabaster, leather and glass, none of them chosen for effect but because Florence already knows how to shape them.
Each piece passes through the hands of Tuscan artisans trained in techniques older than the studio itself. The result sits deliberately between two eras, geometric, saturated, contemporary in silhouette, yet built the way the city has always built: slowly, by hand, in limited number.
"Materials strictly linked to the history of Florence, contemporary in design, timeless in allure."
That same logic runs through every Nicola Falcone piece exhibited internationally, from the brass-brushed Atomo side table to the color-blocked Mondrian bench, objects that read as modern art history filtered through Florentine hands. Presented by International Design, the collection treats furniture as material statement first, function second.
