The same fracture, laid horizontal.
Manta Pilti Credenza extends the fractured-earth language of the Manta Pilti collection across a long, low form. Designed by Tanya Singer and Trent Jansen as part of their three-year cross-cultural collaboration with Errol Evans and Maruku Arts, the piece continues the designers' response to the rapidly warming, drying landscape around Indulkana in remote South Australia, and to the age-old relationships between seasonal patterns, food, hunting, and Law on Country that climate change is now throwing out of alignment.
Individually shaped facets of American walnut, each catching light differently across the credenza's curved ends, are divided by dark cracked lines that run the length of the piece like sun-baked ground. Brass hinges set flush into the timber open onto a fitted interior with adjustable shelving, its bookmatched walnut panel offering a single unbroken plane in contrast to the fractured exterior.
